Sad to say I did not get to post anything for Hope's birthday this year. We did not have internet at home yet for me to spend time on the blog....but now we do! (when our service is online out here in the sticks)
BUT we had a great day....celebrating "HOPE'S" life and the gift of life that she gives us everyday, just getting to be called her parents.
At home: We are preparing for winter here. We have been cleaning up the summer beds getting ready to sow winter cover crops and put up green house covers over the beds we plan to eat from during the winter. We are still getting in the load of squash in that GOD blessed our garden to grow. We had feed corn for the chickens in spite of the drought. We did not have too much regular sweet corn though. We are having FUN with these chickens.Hope's first day of school was on her birthday. Daddy and mommy took her to school, homeschool co-op, then to gymnastics and then out to eat. She got her first official, school back pack, with her initials on it, from LL bean. She kept checking the mailbox for it to come. When it arrived she carried the big package up the driveway, saying "I am so excited"! She opened it once inside and did not stop smiling while hugging her new back pack and thanking daddy (who was at work), for it, (what about mommy? : )
They are now 9 weeks old. They are all rare breed chickens. We are 11 weeks away from getting eggs.
It is so much fun to watch them and very satisfying when the caring for them finishes the day before dark as we get each feathered friend, one by one, back into their safe house.
This is one of Hope's joys to help run them to me so I can catch them and put them in for the night. For some reason they go in for nap around noon (REALLY) but they stay out close to dark so I have to get them inside.
Here we are just checking on them and giving them some greens from the garden. BUT Hope is making them think she has something else for them when really she has her ball in her hand!!!!

Hope sure has grown! It is crazy how big these kids have gotten so quickly. I'm glad you are enjoying life on your farm. We really must get together sometime soon.
